Having a modern backpack that will last and provide you with comfort is not hard any more if you know the features that you need in your bag.

Eye the bag carefully before you buy it, is it the size that you need? or the color that you love?

- Suits your height: it should fit your height and that is a vital thing to consider. Your backpack should not be dangling below your waist if there is no hip belt. With the hip belt the bag can be a little bit below your waist line, hip belt will distribute the weight of the bag evenly. That is if you want to avoid back pain, neck stiffness and want o enjoy your journey. Add to this that longer bags will slow you down. Do you have to buy it with hip belt? no you do not if you followed the above specifications.

Now do you need to measure your torso using a measuring tape to buy the suitable bag? No you don't, it's enough that you try it and feel comfortable wearing it.

- Capacity: backpack capacity will depend on the things that you have to carry it with you. I will not tell you that the bigger bags are better or the smaller bags are nicer. Buy the bag with the capacity that you need.

- Thick and comfortable back straps. It is another vital features. Comfortable straps means thick or wider straps, because thin straps will hurt your bag when you carry it for a long time.

Any bag straps will not hurt your shoulders if you used it for few minutes only, but carrying it for more than 15 minutes or so, will sure hurt your back, neck and shoulders. For that reason you need the straps to be padded.

Adjustable straps are equally important point also, because a bag that is hanging on your butt is so unhealthy, looks awkward and slows your movement. So adjustable straps do help.

- Material: some people likes canvas bags, other likes leather while some likes fabric bags. The important thing is that it should be made of solid material.

- Sleeves: bag with sleeve is a plus. You can put things that you need frequently while you are on the go, such as your mobile phone, the charger, bottle of water, some snacks.

- Backpacks with water resistance: waterproof bags are important if you are heading to the sea or it's raining. But it is not really an essential feature for other needs.

- The color: we all like to have our backpacks with the color that we like. But let me tell you that the brighter the color the faster you will find your lost or stolen bag as you will be able to spot it from really far distance.

The bag that is needed for small trip is different from a bag that is needed for long trip. Backpack that you need for school is different from a backpack for work. So pick a one that serves most of your needs as there is one bag to serve all your needs
